More About Raising the Roof
“Homelessness is a serious issue that Canadians can face at any stage or age of life. Approximately 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year. Based in Toronto, Ontario and supporting community agencies across the country, Raising the Roof works to address the issue of homelessness.
Raising the Roof was launched in 1996 by members of the Canadian Non-Profit Housing Foundation. The goal was to create a national charity dedicated to finding solutions to homelessness.”
“In 1997, Raising the Roof launched its first major fundraising campaign to help the homeless.” Since then, the organization “and over 200 community Partner Agencies have sold toques to help end homelessness in Canada. Raising the Roof provides national leadership on long-term solutions to homelessness. It accomplishes this through partnership and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, investment in local communities, and public education.”
Their vision is at, “all Canadians have access to a safe, stable home and the supports they need to achieve their potential.”
“Their annual Toque Campaign has supported nearly 200 community agencies across Canada. It has raised more than $8 million to date in support of long-term solutions to homelessness.”
